CESS Council
Council recruitment takes palce throughout the academic year. Comissioner applications are typically held in May and September, while President and Vice President elections generally take place in March and April.
Commissioner applications are open to all registered Chemical and Oil & Gas Engineering, including Common First-Year students. Executive Officer positions are open to undergraduate Chemical and Oil & Gas Engineering students, while candidates for President must have previously served on CESS Council. Additional eligibilty requirements may apply and are outlined in the CESS Constitution.

Types of Roles
Executive Officers lead each CESS portfolio and oversee the planning and execution of initiatives throughout the year. They guide the direction of the society, serve on the CESS Board of Directors, and represent CESS within the department, the Engineering Students’ Society (ESS), and other organizations as required.
Executive Officers
Commissioners work alongisde an Executive Officer to help run a specific portfolio. They take on projects, assist with events, and help bring initiatives to life throughout the year. They also support their Vice President by carrying out portfolio-specific responsibilities, helping coordinate events, and contributing to the day-to-day operations.
Commissioners
Representatives serve as the link between the CESS Council and their classmates. They communicate announcements, gather student feedback, and help ensure each cohort is represented throughout the academic year. Representative roles include the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Year Representatives, as well as the Internship Representative.

Portfolios
Supports students trhough academic initiatives, feedback, and engagement with the department. Organizes events and resources that help students succeed throughout their degree.
Academic
Keeps students informed through the CESS website, social media, newsletters, and other communication channels. Ensures students stay up to date on events, opportunities, and everything happening with CESS.
Communications
Builds connections with industry, professional organizations, and alumni while organizing networking events, conferences, and industry tours. Helps students explore career opportunities and build their professional network.
External
Plans and delivers social events, ENGG Week, and other opportunities that bring Chemical and Oil & Gas Engineering students together. Creates opportunities for students to connect outside of the classroom and build a stronger department community.
Events
Manages the financial operations of CESS, including budgeting, sponsorship, reimbursments, and funding applications to support council initiatives. Supports the long-term sustainaibilty of CESS and its initiatives.
Finance
Supports the internal operations of CESS through membership initiatives, merchandaise, council engagement, and transition planning. Helps keep the society organized while supporting members and council throughout the year.
Internal
President
The President oversees the overall direction of CESS and works closely with each portfolio trhoughout the year. They provide leadership to the Executive Officers, chair council meetings, and help coordinate the society’s initiatives. The President also represents CESS within the department, the Engineering Students’ Society (ESS), and external organizations while serving as the primary representative of the society.
