ABOUT
CESS has represented Chemical and Oil & Gas Engineering undergraduates at the University of Calgary since the mid-1970s. We are the official CSChE student chapter for the Schulich School of Engineering.
Our Story.
CESS was founded as a student chapter of the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering, originally serving a few dozen undergraduates in the early 1970s. As the Schulich program grew through the petroleum boom and the energy transition, so did we — adding an Oil & Gas Engineering mandate in 2001 and a wellness portfolio in 2019.
Today CESS runs more than twenty events a year, ranging from refinery tours and lunch & learns to FROSH and the annual engineering banquet. We’re funded entirely by industry sponsorship and merch sales — no student fees.

OUR AFFILIATIONS
CESS is the local chapter for the Canadian, UK, and American institutes of chemical engineering. Members get free or discounted access to all three.
